Massage oil is an oil that is specifically tailored for a body massage. There are a variety of oils suitable for various different kinds of massage. Because a massage in it’s very essence has such therapeutic value, adding oil to it will only enhance the organic benefits achieved through getting a massage in the first place.
The most common oils that are used for massage are typically based around oils with inflammatory properties such as sweet almond oil. With that being said, there are plenty of other commonly used oils that each have their own intrinsic benefits. In this article, we will be going over some of the basic benefits of massage oils.
1. Jojoba Oil.
This particular oil is processed by extracting the oil from a jojoba plant. The oil itself has many different benefits that are enhanced when combined with a massage. For one, it can provide excellent antibacterial properties that allow it to be effective at helping treat all kinds of skin conditions including acne and other inflammatory skin conditions. Another benefit that comes from this oil is obtained due to it’s close properties to natural sebum oil that is secreted from our sweat glands.
Because of this, it can help to successfully regulate natural sebum oil secretion and help the body retain it’s natural oils. Lastly, it contains myristic acid which makes the oil feature anti inflammatory properties which can make it excellent at helping to heal inflammation whether it be beneath the skin on a muscular/cellular level or on the surface of the skin.
2. Lemongrass Oil.
Another commonly used massage oil is lemongrass oil. This particular oil is completely extracted from either partially dried and/or completely fresh leaves by the effective process of steam distillation. This oil is excellent for a variety of reasons. For one, it can boost the parasympathetic nervous system which will allow it to help relieve all kinds of headaches, migraines, and any other nervous system malfunction. Also, it can help relieve muscle tension and is commonly used to treat all kinds of problems including sprains, cramps, and even muscle tears. As you can see, it can be a great addition to a massage.
3. Sweet Almond Oil.
This particular oil is another one of the most commonly used oils for good reason. This particular oil is extracted from almonds. Because it has such a smooth texture, it can be evenly spread out across the skin and it is absorbed much faster than a lot of other oils. However, unlike other common oils, this oil is not absorbed as much which means that it does not have to be consistently reapplied throughout the massage which can disrupt a massage completely. Because it contains so much vitamin E, it is a great emollient which means that it has the ability to soften and sooth the skin. Also, because of the abundance of vitamin E, it is also very effective at helping to combat inflammation both in the skin and in muscles.
There are many different massage oils that have their own unique benefits. When combined with a proper massage, the benefits can be amplified.
